Huntmaster Galinas
|
|
|
|
Galinas,
Elven Huntmaster of Sillumi
|
 |
Galinas
is the most respected huntmaster in Sillumi. His
devotion to protecting the Greenspan forest and
it's creatures is well known, and village elders
often look to him for leadership and guidance
in hard times. Galinas' knowledge of the paths
and ways of the eastern parts of the Greenspan
forest is considered unrivaled. |

Using
Galinas:
Initially Galinas serves only to recruit the party into the adventure.
If the group is particularly weak, the GM can use Galinas to bolster
their ranks by having him accompany them into the valley of the
ancient battle (GTOJ p.4), and thereby into the Grande Temple.
If so Galinas will immediately attempt to take charge of the group
due to his greater experience, even attempting to use his high
Charisma to coerce the most influential party member(s) to allow
him to lead. Even if he follows the lead of another party member,
Galinas will not willingly back down from any monster he meets
in the Grande Temple. The pain and loss of losing his brother
is something he is still deeply affected by, but will not speak
of. It is left to the GM to decide if the monster that slew his
sibling lies somewhere within the halls of the Grande Temple of
Jing.

Named after the patron goddess of their woodlands, Sillumi is
a small village of Denoan elves on the eastern edge of the Greenspan
forest. Sillumi serves primarily as a trading outpost where humans
from the nearby Kingdom of Blegen can trade goods and services
for those produced in elven villages deeper within the woodland
nation. This is necessary as outsiders are not normally permitted
to travel the elven paths of the Greenspan forest, and hunters,
squatters, and lumberjacks are treated as criminals if captured.

Jing: God of Trickery, Fickle Fortune, and
Thievery
|

Jing
statue by Ralph Horsley
"This
image represents a common depiction of Jing as the Welcoming
Beggar. Dressed in plain clothes, his right hand is raised in
greeting, his left extended outwards in a begging fashion. His
simple wooden belt buckle bears his most famous symbol, the
Coins of Fortune. The symbol depicts a triangle of different
coins. Copper is commonly depicted on the bottom left, silver
on the bottom right, and gold on the top, showing the god's
preference for donations of that kind.
The
block the Jing image stands on is covered with a labyrinth pattern,
a symbol of his labyrinthine shrine and home most call the Grande
Temple of Jing. The open slot on the front face of the cube
allows for small donations such as coins, jewels, and rings,
indicating that this statue surely stands in a Jing shrine or
temple - perhaps the Grande Temple itself."

Jing Builds the Grande Temple
|
|
|
Jing is the archetypal trickster god of Denoa. Stories
of his deeds stretch back to the beginning of history, and
they are an important part of Denoan culture and lore. These
stories paint Jing as a doer of many deeds - some good,
some bad. These deeds are typically told with a light adventurous
spirit, but clearly indicate that Jing has had a major effect
on the gods, the Children, and the way of life for all creatures
on Denoa. This may explain the god's many aspects, each
of which has found worshippers among the various races,
cultures, and peoples of Denoa. Indeed, it is safe to say
that Jing is worshipped the world over.
Jing is said to sometimes wander Denoa, looking for interesting
things to steal, or people to abduct and take to his Grande
Temple. Although he appears to Denoas's people in many guises,
Jing always gives away a clue in his appearance so that
the astute or devout might penetrate his disguise and recognize
him for who he is.

The
Church of Jing
|
Temples
built for formal worship and collection of monetary "Donations."
Found throughout the Central Kingdoms, these temples openly
welcome and give sanctuary to beggars, thieves, and commoners.
This has caused them to be ostracized in many cities, having
their status as an official religion revoked. Reduced to
cult status, the Church of Jing nevertheless attracts people
from all races, cultures, and walks of life who would spend
a coin for the chance of Jing's good fortune.
|
|
Commoners
|
Commonly
invoke Jing's name for good luck. They love his tales and
mysterious ways but constantly ward against his dangerous
chaotic side with short prayers, especially during chancy
situations.
|
|
Beggars
|
It
can be argued that the common beggar is the most devout
worshipper of Jing anywhere, having chosen a vocation that
Jing himself was forced to take when the gods stripped him
of all his possessions. Many pray to him and practice his
teachings by attempting to make passersby laugh or smile
in some way in order to earn their coin.
|
|
Thieves
|
Common
thieves, burglars, rakes, and muggers often appeal to Jing's
darker side to bring them good fortune on the prowl. Many
thieves, especially professionals donate a portion of their
plundered booty at Jing temples, hoping to receive the god's
favor.

An

of the Shadowy Blade
|
A
secret society of assassins working throughout the Central
Kingdoms. They are said to strike from the shadows with
blackened blades to fell their foes. Whether a legitimate
religion or not, members of the brotherhood dedicate their
kills to Jing, twisting his "Life Stealer" aspect
to suit their own sadistic needs.
